RANCHO PENASQUITOS – A 21-year-old man was killed Friday morning when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree while speeding on Mercy Road, according to witnesses and San Diego police.

The unidentified man was traveling eastbound on Mercy Road, near Black Mountain Road, at more than 80 mph when he approached a curve, witnesses told police. He hit the center median, crashed into a tree and flipped the motorcycle, according to a police spokeswoman.

The speed limit in the area is 45 mph.

Cyclist identified The motorcycle crash victim has been identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Trevor White, 21, of San Diego. He worked as a facilities manager at a local business.

Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the site of the wreck, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital, the spokeswoman said.

Eastbound Mercy Road was closed between Black Mountain Road and Interstate 15 for several hours as police investigated the crash.
